McCarthy won't seek Gillibrand's Senate seat

Citing personal reasons, Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-Mineola) on Thursday ruled out a run against Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand in next year's Democratic primary.

The exit of McCarthy further clears the field for Gillibrand's bid to win election to the Senate seat Gov. David A. Paterson named her to in a surprise decision in January.
