Assembly to review complaints against Katz
A legislative ethics committee has been asked to investigate the conduct of a Republican assemblyman who in mid-March was charged with marijuana possession after being stopped for speeding on the State Thruway, Assemb. Charles Lavine said Thursday.
But the Assembly Ethics Committee will wait for the outcome of the current legal proceeding against Assemb. Steve Katz (R-Mohegan Lake) before taking up the matter, said Lavine (D-Glen Cove), chairman of the panel.
“Our powers are going to be limited until such a time as there is some adjudication,” Lavine said. “We certainly want to afford Assemblyman Katz the full benefit of the presumption of innocence.”
A complaint to the ethics committee was made by Carol Meissner, the secretary for the Putnam County Democratic Party.
