Cuomo administration scraps planned 45% toll hike on trucks
The Cuomo administration scrapped its plans Monday for a proposed 45 percent toll hike on trucks.
NYS Thruway chief Tom Madison Madison said the Thruway Authority will cut costs and consolidate operations - including trimming 361 positions, decreasing benefits for employees and shifting some costs to other state agencies
Recall that proposing a massive toll or fare hike, then canceling or reducing it is an old favorite in the state government playbook. Most recently, the Port Authority did the same.
Separately, Madison said the authority's board is set to award a contract for the construction of a new Tappan Zee Bridge at a meeting later today. Madison said has concurred with a screening panel's recommendation to award the work to the lowest bid, which came in at $3.14 billion.
