Cuomo communications director departs after 4 months

Allison Gollust, the communications director for Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, is leaving the post after just four months to resume working for her previous boss, Jeff Zucker, who now runs CNN.

Gollust, in a letter to the Democratic governor, said her stint in public service was “fascinating, meaningful and rewarding.”

The highlights she listed included dealing with superstorm Sandy, the enactment of gun control laws and the “launch” of initiatives directed at social progress and fiscal responsibility.
However, Gollust said that working for the governor required her to spend too much time in Albany, away from her family.

“This return to the private sector will work much better for my family,” said Gollust, who has two children and lives in Manhattan.

The spokeswoman noted she had worked for Zucker for 15 years at NBC, and called her new job “an incredibly exciting opportunity for me not only to rejoin Jeff, but the industry as well.”
She was hired after Richard Bamberger, a longtime Cuomo aide, left the post for a new employer, M Public Affairs.

Gollust will continue to work for the governor until the end of the month.

A CNN spokeswoman had no immediate comment.
