Cuomo: Fla. fundraising not about 2016

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo has two upcoming fundraising trips to Florida, including one that features a Paul Simon concert.

But he says it’s not about raising money to run for president in 2016.

“It’s about raising money. That’s what it’s about,” Cuomo told reporters Wednesday at the State Capitol. “It’s not about the music, I can tell you that. Paul Simon is great, but . . . ”

Cuomo already has stockpiled $22.5 million in his campaign coffers — seemingly plenty enough to scare off most statewide challengers. Asked why he should venture south to raise money, the Democrat said: “There is potential fundraising for me in the state of Florida.”

Politico reported that Cuomo has slated six major fundraisers over the next six months.

Moments earlier, Cuomo, responding to a question about gridlock in Washington, said: “Look, you can turn around Albany, you can turn around anything.” But that remark wasn’t about 2016 either, the governor said.
