Dem convention: Schneiderman nominated for re-election

Kathy Sheehan, Democratic mayor of Albany, has sung AG Eric Schneiderman's praises on matters of public corruption, abortion rights and rights of the poor.

She's "proud" to nominate the former state Senator for AG.

A seconding speech comes from Chantal Walker, of Brooklyn, who works at Papa John's. She mentions the pizza purveyor CEO's astronomical pay, $3.2 million, which gets boos in the room. "They don't pay us enough, and even the little that we're promised, sometimes they do not even pay us that." She speaks of waiting weeks and months to get back salary. "That's just wrong."

Schneiderman, she says, has gotten back pay for her and car-wash workers "who were cheated" and "won more than $16 million altogether" in this regard. Like his opponent John Cahill, she slips here and there into calling him 'Snider-man." Applause follows.

Teri Kroll, of Copiague, who lost her 23-year-old son to an opiate drug addiction -- she's now an activist on the issue -- cited efforts by Schneiderman to crack down on overprescribing and other abusive dealings.

Now Schneiderman is designated the nominee by acclamation. He takes to the rostrum.
