DNC: Gillibrand says Iowa appearance not about presidential aspirations

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) will address the Iowa Democratic delegation Thursday – but don’t get the impression she’s interested in running for president in 2016.

Gillibrand said her reasons for talking to Hawkeye State Dems are twofold:

Her friendship with longtime Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa), who collaborated with her to fight for health benefits for 9/11 rescue workers.

Her interest in promoting Christie Vilsack for Congress. Vilsack is the wife of former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack and is campaigning to become the first female Democratic representative from Iowa. Gillibrand has helped her raise campaign funds.

Gillibrand added that New York Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo would make “a wonderful presidential candidate.” She didn’t mention her Republican opponent this fall, attorney Wendy Long. But she said she’s definitely running for a full, six-year term.
