Expanded NY adoption registry signed into law

A law signed Thursday will expand participation in New York’s adoption registry, where adoptees and birthparents can search for information and pursue reunions.

Previously, the state limited participation to adoptees born in New York State. The new law, signed by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, extends participation to those born out of state but adopted by New York families.

The bill was sponsored by two Long Island legislators, Assemb. Charles Lavine (D-Glen Cove) and Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos (R-Rockville Centre).
