Klein: Cuomo will unveil minimum wage proposal

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo is expected to roll out a proposal to raise the state’s minimum wage during his State of the State address, a top Democrat said Friday.

Sen. Jeff Klein (D-Bronx), co-leader of the State Senate, met with Cuomo behind closed doors primarily on gun control, though they discussed other issues.

Asked if Cuomo would have a minimum-wage proposal in his address next Wednesday, Klein said: “I believe so, yes.”

Cuomo officials didn't immediately comment.

Klein and the other four members of the Independent Democratic Conference – who have joined with Republicans to form a coalition to govern the Senate – favor a minimum-wage increase, as does the Democrat-led Assembly. Last year, Republicans blocked a wage hike.
