LIA , builders' group to co-sponsor Mangano-Suozzi faceoff

Call it the Wars in Woodbury.

Nassau’s Republican County Executve Edward Mangano and his challenger, Democratic former county exeutive Tom Suozzi, have agreed to square off in their first debate Oct. 29, Kevin Law, president of the Long Island Association, has disclosed.

Later the same day, both contenders will face off again in a televised debate at New 12 Long Island studios.

The event, which the LIA is co-spnsoring with the Long Island Builders Institute, will be held at the Crest Hollow Country Club before an expected crowd of more than 800 business people at the 8:30 a.m. breakfest meeting.

The business organization has been sponsoring county executive debates for more than a quarter century dating back to when former Acting Suffolk Executive Michael LoGrande and then Assemb. Patrick Halpin battled in 1987.

The two contenders are also scheduled to appear jointly Sept. 25 at the Garden City Chamber of Commerce luncheon at the Garden City Hotel, but not in a debate format.
