Marist: Go, Hillary, go.
In the latest Marist Poll, 55 percent of NYers say Obama should pick Sen. Clinton as secretary of state, while 31 percent want her to remain as senator; 72 percent think she would do an excellent or good job at State.
For her replacement: 43 percent of NY voters think Attorney General Andrew Cuomo should get the nod, while 42 percent say they don't know. Rep. Nydia Velazquez and Rep.Nita Lowey tie for 5% each. Congressmen Steve Israel and Greg Meeks get 3 percent and 2 percent, respectively.
Most likely, that is designed to create an excuse if the jobs are not offered.
Since we're now on a second tier of speculation, why not a third? If Hillary goes to State, and if Andrew replaces her in the Senate, who will replace Andrew as AG?
Spitzer? Charlie O'Byrne? Michael Garcia? Basil Paterson? Mark Green? Karen Burstein? Oliver Koppell? Richard Brodsky? LATE ADDS: Albany DA David Soares? Assemb. Mike Gianaris of Queens? Denise O'Donnell of DCJS? Sean Patrick Maloney? Suffolk DA Tom Spota?
Also from Marist: Paterson's job approval still strong, but it's dipped during the last month from 57-34 to 51-37. He bests Bloomberg in a hypothetical matchup 44-40, and tops Giuliani 51 to 41.
