Newest Island state legislator sworn in

Assemb. Anthony Palumbo ( R-New Suffolk) was sworn into office Tuesday as the newest member of the State Legislature.

The former Suffolk County assistant district attorney won a special election on Nov. 5 in the 2nd Assembly District, which includes the county’s North Fork. Palumbo beat Democrat John McManmon of Jamesport for the seat vacated by Dan Losquadro, who was elected Brookhaven Town highway superintendent in March.

Palumbo said he will focus on small businesses, jobs and to end “the corruption that has run rampant in Albany.”

"New York is the least business friendly state and that is shameful," Palumbo said.

His wife, attorney Tracy Palumbo, their two children and Palumbo’s parents attended the brief ceremony at the State Capitol.
