NIFA pays tribute to departing member
Attorney Leonard Steinman wasn't able to receive the "Thanks and Good Luck" accolades usually given to departing members of the Nassau Interim Finance Authority because his election to State Supreme Court had not been decided when the county's control board last met at the end of November.
Steinman's November victory wasn't certified until late December because of a disagreement over the counting of paper ballots in Suffolk.
So the NIFA board of directors issued a statement Monday in place of the handshakes.
It noted that Steinman had resigned from the NIFA board on Dec. 31, just prior to his swearing as a Supreme Court Justice.
"The board would like to express its deep appreciation to Justice Steinman for his dedicated service," it said. "He has been a diligent and productive contributor to the work of NIFA. We will miss Len and wish him all the best in the future."
Steinman's departure brings the number of vacancies to two on the seven-member unpaid NIFA board. Chairman Ronald Stack's term expired at the end of December. He continues to serve in the position, which is a governor appointment.
