No Coliseum-bidder role for Park Strategies
Long Island’s largest lobbying firm is taking a seat on the sidelines in the competition to renovate the Nassau Coliseum and its surrounding property.
Former Sen. Alfonse D’Amato’s firm, Park Strategies, has told the two largest bidders — Madison Square Garden and Forest City Ratner — that they will not represent either firm, said company spokeswoman Dana Sanneman.
Park Strategies, with $3.7 million in revenue in 2012 — eighth-most in the state — represents both MSG and Ratner on unrelated matters, Sanneman said. The two other bidders are Syosset developer Edward Blumenfeld and Bayville-based New York Sports Llc.
Political observers had suggested D’Amato would be a bellwether in the Coliseum contest. They recall that Islanders owner Charles Wang once rejected a request from D’Amato to bring his brother, Armand, onto Wang’s $3.8 billion Lighthouse Project. D’Amato later turned against the project, arguing it would turn Nassau into New York City’s sixth borough. The Lighthouse Project was ultimately rejected by the Town of Hempstead. D’Amato has denied making the request.
