Pelosi headlines Bishop fundraisers

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi headlined two fundraisers that perennially embattled Rep. Tim Bishop (D-Southampton) held on the South Fork over the weekend.

One was a $500 a head event Saturday at the home of major Bishop backer Robert F.X. Sillerman that drew about 150 people, according to several who were present.

The next morning Pelosi was the feature attraction at a pancake breakfast held at the East Hampton home of Democratic fundraiser Liz Robbins. TV personality Joy Behar, most recently of ABC's “The View,” flipped pancakes with Bishop at a $1,000 a head event that also featured a petting zoo for children.

A Bishop spokesman declined to say how much was raised at the two fundraisers.

On Friday, the House Ethics Committee disclosed that a bipartisan panel had been reviewing a fundraising complaint made against Bishop during his re-election campaign last year. The independent Office of Congressional Ethics forwarded a report to the Ethics Committee on June 13. The Ethics Committee said it will announce the results of the investigation by mid-September.

The complaint alleged that Bishop’s campaign sought a contribution from hedge fund investor Eric Semler, whom he was helping to get fireworks permits for Semler’s son’s bar mitzvah. Bishop says his daughter, who serves as his fundraiser, was only following up on the constituent’s offer to donate. Bishop turned over to charity the $5,000 Semler and his wife gave.
