Rep. Bishop to backer: 'Maybe we should call you the mailman'
The Office of Congressional Ethics made headlines when it found “substantial reason” to believe Rep. Tim Bishop violated the law when he allegedly sought a donation from a constituent he was helping with permits.
But the report also gave a glimpse of how informally Bishop (D-Southampton) communicated with his friend and fundraiser, entertainment industry executive Robert Sillerman. “OK, so just call me the ... mailman,” Bishop wrote Sillerman, for helping deliver for the constituent.
After Sillerman said the constituent would contribute to Bishop’s campaign, Bishop again conjured former NBA great Karl Malone's nickname: “Maybe we should be calling you the mailman,” he wrote.
