Suffolk College board member forgoes a full term

Former Suffolk union official Arthur Cliff may win the record for having the shortest tenure as a member of the Suffolk Community College board of trustees.

Cliff, former president of the Superior Officers Association, only appointed last December,  has told legislative officials he did not wish to seek a full six-year term for personal  reasons. Cliff was appointed to fill the remainder of former trustee Sol Fenchel’s term which is up June 30. The resolution which would have given Cliff a full term was withdrawn last week.

The likely replacement appointee is expected to be Denise Sullivan, daughter of the late Presiding Officer William Lindsay, whose record eight-year tenure as legislative leader ended last fall when he died of cancer.

Sullivan is a Suffolk Community College graduate and now an assistant superintendent in the Hampton Bays School District.
