Suffolk gambling project prompts a flurry of bidder interest
More than 50 potential consultants and developers have obtained bid packages so far to make proposals to Suffolk Off-Track Betting Corp. to help site and build its new 1,000 electronic slot machine gambling emporium, according to county sources.
They include Empire Casinos, Delaware North and Blumenfeld, the sources say. Those seeking bid packages not only include big developers and gambling operators but businesses that might want to become involved in some aspect of operations, like concessionaires and parking gargages. Even Nassau Off-Track Betting, which is developing its own 1,000 machine video lottery terminal gambling casino, has also obtained a package from the county.
Deadline for proposals is Sept. 24 and OTB officials expected to made a decision on the first contracts Oct. 15. The county has projected to select a new site and have grounding breaking by April, 2014 and an opening a year later.
