Suffolk GOP chair: Croci out of the running for state Senate

Islip Town Supervisor Tom Croci is out of the running for the state Senate seat currently held by fellow Republican Lee Zeldin.

John Jay LaValle, Suffolk Republican chairman, said that he has received word indirectly that Croci, now serving in the Middle East as a military reservist, is not interested in the race. Zeldin is looking for the nomination to face Rep. Tim Bishop (D-Southampton).

That leaves Islip Town Board member Anthony Senft, a Conservative who has the minor party’s strong support, as well as Brookhaven Town Board member Tim Mazzei, Islip Town Board member Trish Bergin Weichbrodt, Islip GOP chair Frank Tantone and former Assemb. Dean Muray in the hunt. ”I’m still happy with the deep bench we have,” said LaValle.
