Weisenberg: I'm running

Assemb. Harvey Weisenberg (D-Long Beach) will announce Sunday that he’s running for re-election, putting to rest speculation of retirement.

Weisenberg’s announcement will come during the annual Long Beach Polar Bear Club’s Super Bowl Sunday Splash, a fundraiser for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. About 10,000 people are expected to attend the event, many taking a plunge into the chilly Atlantic Ocean. Weisenberg has long supported the event.

First elected in 1989, Weisenberg will likely face a primary challenge from Democrat Jeffrey Toback, who served 10 years in the Nassau County Legislature.
Weisenberg said Thursday, “I’m running. I never said I’m not running.”
