Hempstead's Republican Supervisor Kate Murray no longer has the Independence Party endorsement. Neither does her Democratic opponent, Kristen McElroy. Both have agreed to relinquish the party line - given to each by Nassau County Independence Committee chairman Bobby Kumar - rather than have a primary for it. Initially, Kumar gave the line to Murray, as he has each of the three times she ran for the office. A few days later, when he learned the Republicans were challenging him on three county legislative seats, he also gave the endorsement to McElroy.
