Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is headlining a new cable TV spot for GOP Congressional contender George Demos, claiming he'd be a great congressman and defending him against critics.
State Sen. Lee Zeldin gives his own local narrative in a 60-second radio ad just released.
Giuliani, in the 30-second spot appearing on Fox News and other channels, said, Like me, my friend George Demos was a prosecutor, and hes running to fix the mess in Washington. He added, George would never vote to raise taxes or support Obamacare.
Demos began airing his fifth ad Thursday in his battle against Zeldin who both the Republican and Conservative leaders have designated as their candidate in a June 24 GOP primary for the right to face Rep. Tim Bishop (D-Southampton) in November.
In the ad, Giuliani also defended Demos, a former Security and Exchange Commission lawyer, saying: Dont believe attacks from his opponents, I know George Demos. He is a man of integrity and character.
Zeldin backers have attacked Demos as a political opportunist trying to undercut the partys chosen candidate by relying on millions of dollars from his father-in-law, a West Coast developer who in the past has supported former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton. This money is connected directly from the mother of Obamacare, said Jesse Garcia, Brookhaven GOP chairman. He added Zeldin will oppose and repeal Obamacare when he gets to Congress.
However, Kevin Tschirhart, Demos campaign manager, said the powerful ad again demonstrates that George Demos is the only candidate who can defeat liberal Democrat Tim Bishop.
A script for Zeldin's new ad is posted below:
