Former Rep. Carolyn McCarthy is the latest high-powered Democratic name to endorse Southampton Town Supervisior Anna Throne-Holst in her bid for Congress.

McCarthy, a gun-control advocate who left office last year, called Throne-Holst "an outstanding leader" who has "governed with a pragmatic approach" and is "never afraid to reach across the aisle to get the job done."

Earlier this month, Rep. Steve Israel, former head of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, also backed Throne-Holst, who is facing a primary challenge from David Calone, a former federal prosecutor, venture capitalist and chair of the Suffolk County Planning Commission.

Both are looking to challenge freshman GOP Rep. Lee Zeldin of Shirley next year.
Throne-Holst said she considers McCarthy a "role model" and hoped to "continue in her footsteps."

"Anna Throne-Holst has been an outstanding leader and dedicated public servant. She has governed with a pragmatic approach, never afraid to reach across the aisle to get the job done. With the current dysfunction in Washington, Long Island needs leaders like her in Congress and that's why I enthusiastically endorse her," said Congresswoman McCarthy.

"Carolyn McCarthy is someone I have looked up to as a role model - someone who dedicated herself to being a leader and representative when her community and country needed her. Her "get the job done" representation is something more Members of Congress should emulate. She never took no for an answer and worked tirelessly to fight for Long Island's working families. To have her support is a true honor. I look forward to continuing in her footsteps as an effective Congresswoman, just as she was for nearly 20 years," said Throne-Holst.

Rep. McCarthy's endorsement joins a growing list who have already thrown their support behind Throne-Holst, including: Congressman Steve Israel, the Southampton Town Patrolman's Benevolent Association, EMILY's List, Assemblyman Fred Thiele, Suffolk County Legislator Jay Schneiderman, Shelter Island Town Supervisor Jim Dougherty, former East Hampton Town Supervisor and former New York State Democratic Committee Chair Judith Hope, Southampton Town Council Member Brad Bender, West Hampton Dunes Village Mayor Gary Vegliante, Westhampton Beach Village Trustee Brian Tymann, former Riverhead Democratic Committee Chair Butch Langhorn, and former Smithtown Town Supervisor candidate Steve Snair.

Anna Throne-Holst is the Southampton Town Supervisor and a working mother of four children - Nicholas, Max, Sebastian and Karess. She is running for the Democratic nomination to take on Republican Congressman Lee Zeldin.
