Former Gov. George Pataki will headline a $1,000 a head fundraiser for Republican Congressional contender George Demos next week at the Women’s National Republican Club in Manhattan.
The Dec. 10 event also offers donors to be "co-hosts" at $5,200 a head or event sponsors for $2,600.
Kevin Tschirhart, Demos' campaign manager, declined to say how many invitations were mailed out or how big a crowd Demos expected for the event at the club’s ninth floor solarium, saying only “we expect it to be a major event.” In addition to Pataki, GOP Rep. Gus Bilirakis of Florida is also expected.
Demos, who has run twice before, and already has $1 million in his campaign account, is vying with Republican State Sen. Lee Zeldin, who has the backing of state GOP chairman Edward Cox as well as local GOP and Conservative Party leaders. Zeldin ran a losing race against Democratic Rep. Timothy Bishop in 2008.
Demos lost his bids for the nomination to businessman Randy Altschuler in 2010 and dropped out of the GOP primary to get married in 2012.
