The Republicans' selection of Fox-TV celeb Sean Hannity's pal John Gomez to challenge incumbent Steve Israel (D-Huntington) in the 2nd C.D. does not sit well with some self-described 'Tea Party' activists, as responses to Frank Seabrook's blog indicate. Some of those voicing their opinions feel the Conservative Society for Action’s Stephen Labate was slighted in the process -- while others indicate concern about potentially splitting the opposition vote in a year when they see a real chance to oust Israel. On a Labate campaign blog, available here, there seems little mood to surrender. In fact, the blog's maintainer states:
"While he is modest about his service to the country, (Labate) is a real American hero and he needs your participation to ensure victory. The powers that be are attempting to silence the ”will of the people” and nominate celebrity backed candidates. They are enamored with fame and care little about OUR principles."
The site also urges calls to local Republican leaders on Labate's behalf. For a look at what Gomez is offering voters, his Web site his here.
