James Duffy, vice-chairman at large of the Suffolk Conservatives, thinks Joseph DioGuardi, 69, the former Congressman, ought to be the candidate against Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand.

In a letter to friends and allies, Duffy said, "Why Joe DioGuardi? I had the pleasure of meeting Joe and his lovely wife Shirley at the NYS Conservative Party PAC convention in Albany last month. I started with the misconception that Joe was probably just another also ran, trying to get back into the political spotlight. Nothing could be further from the truth. Having been on the political scene for 46 years (and counting), I came to see Joe as being "the real deal" as both a true conservative and a person."

".....Joe's professional background is financial. He Is a CPA, a welcome addition to a Senate that has more than its share of lawyers. He has also convinced me that he can raise the necessary funds to run a strong senate bid......
