State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman won’t represent Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver in two sexual-harassment lawsuits filed by former staffers against the speaker and ex-Assemb. Vito Lopez.

The lawsuits center in part on a confidential settlement approved by Silver involving two former Lopez employees. Because Schneiderman’s office was contacted about some of the legalities involved in the settlement, his office won’t represent Silver, an official said.

“Because the complaints cite a communication between an employee of this office and Assembly staff, we have declined to represent Assembly officials in the case,” Schneiderman spokesman Matt Mittenthal.
