Legis. Kate Browning has another year in office before being forced out by term limits, but her chief of staff Josh Slaughter seems to be preparing for a run.

Slaughter last week passed out palm cards with his picture on them in parts of the district. The cards invite residents to contact Slaughter with county issues. They feature Browning’s office number and Slaughter’s cellphone and county email address. Browning said the cards are paid for by her campaign.

“If he gets the OK to run, I’m 100 percent behind him,” said Browning, of Shirley, a Working Families Party member who caucuses with the Democrats. “He’ll continue the work we’ve started on the important initiatives.”

Slaughter, 33, who lives in Shirley, said knocking on doors is the best way to find out what residents need. “Right now I’m focused on providing services to constituents,” he said. He said he’d be interested in running for the seat. “It’s been my life for the last decade. It’s my passion.”
