Republican gubernatorial hopeful Rob Astorino held private meetings late last month with the Nassau and Suffolk GOP chairmen before formally announcing his candidacy last week.
The Westchester County executive met privately with Nassau GOP chairman Joseph Mondello and his Suffolk counterpart, John Jay LaValle, on Feb. 27.
“They held a lengthy and productive meeting,” said Tony Santino, Mondello’s spokesman, and the chairman indicated he is inclined to back Astorino, though the final choice belongs to the GOP convention in May.
LaValle said that Astorino has already agreed to headline the Huntington GOP dinner on March 20.
