Former Presiding Officer Wayne Horsley dissipated his $114,051 legislative campaign fund late last year just before leaving office, but has set up a new fund with the State Board of Elections known as Citizens for Babylon.
The newly created committee got the bulk of Horsley’s leftover funds, $65,258, which was transferred to the new committee on Jan. 10.
Late last year, Horsley gave the Suffolk Democratic Committee $44,000 over several months, from August to late October. The rest went for miscellaneous expenses and some local donations plus $1,473 spent on Horsley’s going-away luncheon at the county legislature.
Jeff Guillot, a political consultant who helped Horsley set up the fund, said the former legislator “has no expressed intention of what to spend it on at this time.”
