Right up to the weeks before he became a Republican, Suffolk Executive Steve Levy kept up certain practices you’d expect from a Democratic county official, as indicated by a $500 contribution from his political committee to Bridget Fleming dated Feb. 19 He switched parties March 20.

Fleming, a Democrat, won a special election to fill the vacancy on the Southampton Town Board left by the ascent of Anna Throne-Holst to supervisor. Fleming defeated Republican William Hughes, Jr., a retired Southampton Town Police officer and has been a swing vote on some board issues.

The contribution is disclosed because of the deadlines involved in the special election. Levy and other statewide candidates file their next report in mid-July.
