Chad Bellone, younger brother of Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, got a promotion at the Suffolk Water Authority last week, which will raise his salary 26.6 percent, from $45,000 to $57,000.
Bellone, employed by the authority for the past four years, had been working in workforce technology. He will become the assistant workforce technology administrator and metering supervisor.
Jeff Szabo, the authority's chief executive, said the promotion had nothing to do with politics. He said the position is a hybrid of his old job and an opening to help overseeing meter readers. Szabo said Bellone’s brother and another supervisor will monitor activities of 28 meter readers. Szabo said a former meter supervisor, who had been making more than $80,000 a year when he retired, was not immediately replaced and the remaining metering supervisor needs help.
Bellone’s promotion was among increases for the authority’s 170 managers, who received increases averaging 2.25 percent.
