Republican John Cahill is expected to announce his candidacy for attorney general on Sunday, a GOP official said.
Cahill, ex-Gov. George Pataki’s former chief of staff and current law partner, would be challenging Democrat incumbent Attorney General Eric Schneiderman. A Republican county chairman who asked to remain anonymous said all GOP county chairs were notified about Cahill’s plans this week.
Republicans have been expecting Cahill’s candidacy for weeks. The Yonkers resident formed an exploratory campaign committee last month.
The party is holding its nominating convention next week in Rye.
