For cash-strapped Nassau County, the idea of a Shinnecock casino at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale seems more and more appealing, according to County Executive Edward Mangano.

Friday, without ever mentioning the coliseum casino idea that has garnered much press over the past month, Mangano told a Visions Long Island gathering that he is committed to practical sustainable development at the coliseum.

Monday, during an area television station interview, Mangano responded to a query about the casino thus: “I'm focused on creating jobs and keeping property taxes in check. A casino has the potential to achieve both.”

Later that day, Mangano sent his director of governmental research, Eden Laikin, to Tarrytown in Westchester County to represent him at a two-day New York Gaming Summit. Among other things, it is a forum to discuss state and regional gaming issues.
