Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice came to Washington Wednesday, congressional sources said, as she explores running in this year's election to replace retiring Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-Mineola).

But Rice, who sources say is being encouraged by Democrats to run, was secretive about her trip.

Rice's campaign spokesman Eric F. Phillips refused to comment on the visit, other than to say in response to questions that she had no "public or official schedule today" and there were "no taxpayer funds involved."
