Spin Cycle

News, views and commentary on Long Island, state and national politics.

They’re peddling Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s agenda – er, pedaling.

Cuomo, who has dispatched his cabinet members in the past to campaign around New York for same-sex marriage, property-tax caps and other items on his political agenda, now is sending some of them on the annual Erie Canal Bike Tour.

The eight-day, 400-mile tour runs from Buffalo to Albany and concludes Sunday, July 15.

Cabinet members slated to participate include Economic Development Commissioner Kenneth Adams, Parks Commissioner Rose Harvey and Environmental Conservation Commissioner Joseph Martens.

Along the way, they will be promoting upstate economic development. None is expected to ride the entire tour.

In 2011, Cuomo sent his commissioners around the state to tout his proposal to legalize same-sex marriage – regardless of what agency they led. In 2012, they scoured the state promoting plans for big investments in Buffalo and for the “world’s largest convention center” in Queens.
