Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, while weighing a run for governor, isn’t waiting to gear up for his next campaign. Astorino met with the Erie County GOP on Wednesday, headlining its holiday reception. And the state Republican Party is hosting a fundraiser for him in Tarrytown on Jan. 16, 15 days after he begins his second term in Westchester.
Meanwhile, Carl Paladino, the 2010 GOP candidate, continues his scorched-earth threats. He said if Astorino doesn’t call for the resignation of Senate co-leader Dean Skelos (R-Rockville Centre) — whom Paladino doesn’t think is sufficiently conservative — he’ll seek to run on the Conservative Party line. That could sink the GOP’s chances against Cuomo and threaten the Republicans' status as the No. 2 party in the state.
