In a clear effort to sow further division in Republican ranks, the state Democrats' executive director, Charlie King, put out this statement:

Ed Cox sounded like he might be cooling on Steve Levy’s gubernatorial campaign in the wake of a series of negative articles about the Suffolk County Executive. According to Newsday, Cox said Rick Lazio is “a good candidate” and would make a “good governor.”

"Ed Cox seems to be flip-flopping his way through the Republican primaries. It’s a tough call to have to choose between a Wall Street lobbyist and the king of pay-to-play in Suffolk County to be your candidate for governor, but come on Ed, you can’t have it both ways."
