Unique note about the announcement earlier today of former Westchester Rep. Joe DioGuardi for the GOP nomination for US Senate against incumbent Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand: The emphasis on his background as a certified public accountant.

“From his time behind the cash register at his family’s food market in the Bronx and as a waiter in Westchester working his way through Fordham University, to his 22-year professional career in an international accounting firm and his tenure in the U.S. Congress, Joe has upheld the financial discipline and family values important to New York and America,” says the statement from his campaign.

An earlier-declared GOP hopeful, Nassau’s former Presiding Officer Bruce Blakeman, has been moving around upstate of late, meeting with party leaders in the Rochester, Buffalo and Binghamton areas.
