Finally resolved: Ex-Sen. Bruno acquitted of fraud charges

At 85, former Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno of Rensselaer County has been cleared of federal fraud charges. It comes five and a half years after his first indictment. The acquittal caps a story of trials, appeals, and the aftermath of a crucial Supreme Court decision in an unrelated case that narrowed the uses of one of U.S. prosecutors' favorite tools, the honest-services-fraud statute. Some in the political world and elsewhere wondered why he was still being prosecuted.
