Former U.S. Rep Gary Ackerman has endorsed ex-North Hempstead Supervisor Jon Kaiman’s bid for Congress, his campaign announced Wednesday.
Ackerman, of Roslyn Heights, served from 1983 to 2013.
“I am honored to have the support of Congressman Gary Ackerman and the other elected and former elected officials who have put their names forward on my behalf,” said Kaiman, a Democrat. “As my campaign ramps up we will be adding other leaders and supporters from throughout the district to our team effort to win this congressional seat.”
Kaiman’s campaign also announced the endorsements of North Hempstead council members Lee Seeman and Peter Zuckerman, Town Receiver of Taxes Charles Berman, and former North Hempstead councilman Tony D’Urso. The campaign also announced the endorsements of Charlotte Sear, president of the Reform Democratic Association, and Frances Reid, the former North Hempstead Environmental and chief sustainability officer.
Kaiman has stepped down from his state job as a special adviser to Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on storm recovery and his unpaid position as chairman of the Nassau Interim Finance Authority.
Other Democratic contenders include former Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi, Suffolk County Legis. Steve Stern (D-Dix Hills), North Hempstead councilwoman Anna Kaplan and lobbyist Brad Gerstman.
