Looks like Freeport Mayor Andrew Hardwick's election committee is revving up efforts to amass campaign cash.

In their second fundraiser since April, "Friends of Andrew Hardwick & Associates" are throwing a bash to celebrate his "50ish birthday" (so says a copy of the invitation).

The last event, a $300-a-plate gala at the posh Garden City Hotel, drew such Albany notables as Gov. David A. Paterson, Deputy Assembly Speaker Earlene Hooper (D-Hempstead) and the temporary president of the state Senate, Malcolm Smith (D-St. Albans.)

Admission to this fete, scheduled for June 3 at the Allegria Hotel & Spa in Long Beach, runs at least $125. Gold sponsors plunk down $150, and platinum sponsors fork over $500.

Maybe the committee's just trying to keep up with expenses. According to its January filing with the state board of elections, "Friends" has reimbursed more than $8,000 to Hardwick and his wife since last August.

They've spent another $6,500 on the fundraiser venues. And then there's the $500 for, as explained on the disclosure form, "souvenirs [for the] Chinese delegation."
