The Republicans, with seven contenders vying to take on Rep. Tim Bishop (D-Southampton), now have 10 people seeking to run against Rep. Steve Israel (D-Huntington).

Candidates screened in Huntington and Babylon last week and will do so in Islip Tuesday night. On the list: Radio personality John Gomez; Sal Ferro, owner of Alure  Home Improvements; Josh Price; Chris Thompson, David Dileo; Anthony Segreto; Brian Sullivan; Peter Nichols, Stephen LaBate and Bruce Kelly.

“It used to be we had trouble finding one candidate,” said Frank Tantone, Islip GOP chairman, “Now with have a roomful.” Suffolk’s Conservative Sheriff Vincent DeMarco earlier expressed interest, but Suffolk GOP Chairman John Jay LaValle said he declined to screen.
