Even as they remain fiercely divided over their endorsements for governor, Republican state chairman Ed Cox and Conservative state chairman Mike Long today stood behind a single candidate for comptroller: Harry Wilson, a resident of Westchester.
Wilson is expected to oppose Democratic Comptroller Tom DiNapoli, the former Nassau assemblyman, and in a press conference on the NY City Hall steps, began targeting what he sees as DiNapoli’s weaknesses: Appointment to the post by fellow legislators despite not having made a governor’s list of qualified candidates, being an alleged “bystander” as state spending grew, and standing in a party that dominates Albany.
“Does he really expect us to forget his track record?” Wilson asked rhetorically. The Republican chairs from Manhattan and Brooklyn were on hand along with the Brooklyn Conservative chairman.
