Republican Senate candidate Bruce Blakeman, the former Nassau legislative leader, chided Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand over her stand on the "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy on gays in the military. He said it "irresponsibly threatens troop morale while our nation is at war."

Blakeman, in a statement issued today, called her actions "nothing more than political grandstanding ina n election year. The Pentagon is examining the policy and will make a recommendation in the future. Attempting to short-circuit the process to score cheap political points is irresponsible."
