ALBANY - Three Long Islanders crossed party lines late Tuesday in casting ballots on the most hotly debated bill in New York’s 2015-16 state budget.

Bill No. A3006/S2006 was an all-but-the-kitchen-sink measure that combined controversial new rules on ethics and teacher evaluations along with labor fees, parental custody rights and a college-loan forgiveness program.

The majorities in either house (Republicans in the Senate, Democrats in the Assembly) generally supported the measure while the minorities opposed. The Assembly debated it for more than six hours before approving it, 92-55. The Senate passed it, 36-26.
