Former Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi didn’t just appear on conservative Sean Hannity’s talk show.
A few days earlier the Glen Cove Democrat lunched with Nassau Republican chairman Joseph Mondello at Giulio Cesare in Westbury, a favorite restaurant of many Nassau pols.
Suozzi declined comment on his apparent turn to the right. But Mondello explained he sent a note after the election, wishing Suozzi well and suggesting lunch. Suozzi took him up on the offer.
“The lunch went fine,” said Mondello, who declined to give many specifics about their conversation. “There was no animosity on my behalf. I did not detect any on his.”
While they differ politically, Mondello said, “It shouldn’t be a hate thing. I remember a day when guys on different sides of the aisle used to go out together all the time.”
Mondello says he picked up the tab. “Better that I paid than somebody bought me.”
