Islip civic gadfly Patricia Montanino last week got a job as a $43,937 a year elections clerk at the Suffolk Board of Elections on the recommendation of Islip GOP chairman Frank Tantone.

The hiring, some say, may show a thawing of the relationship between Suffolk Republican chairman John Jay LaValle and Tantone, who was cool to LaValle becoming county leader, but has been highly successful in Islip since taking over. Montanino was an outspoken foe of former Islip Supervisor Pete McGowan.
