His actor brother may be the household name, but Steven Macchio has made a name for himself helping process household waste.

Now, Suffolk is seeking his expertise. The county legislature on Tuesday is expected to appoint Macchio, 49, of Dix Hills — whose brother, Ralph (in photo), starred in “The Karate Kid” movies — to the county Liquid Waste Licensing Board. The five-member volunteer panel primarily advises staff on sewer and septic tank compliance issues.

Macchio, in a letter to the county, said he owns wastewater treatment plants in several states and often works with municipalities, adding, “environmental safety and the betterment of the community ... has always been a deep concern of mine.”
