Suffolk Legislature Minority Leader John Kennedy (R-Nesconset) said his first fundraiser for the county comptroller’s race drew more than 200 donors and raised $45,700.
Kennedy said he was buoyed by the response to his $250-a-head event at Windows on the Lake in Lake Ronkonkoma last week. “We are on a roll and it shows we are the real deal,” he said.
Kennedy, a late entry into the contest, is facing Democrat James Gaughran, chairman of the Suffolk Water Authority, who got into the race much earlier and has raised $153,000.
Kennedy said he is organizing several more events — one aimed at lawyers Sept. 19 and another targeting business Sept. 24. He also said he has lined up a committee of prominent financiers who will meet the first week in September.
